Have you ever heard a sermon about how God cursed the ground for Adam's sake and men must therefore be diligent to ensure that it remains blighted-refusing to use insecticides or pesticides on their gardens or in any way lightening their workloads for fear of angering God? Has anyone ever told you that it is sinful to use analgesics to lessen pain in childbirth because God wants women to have greater, not lesser, pain during labor? It is highly unlikely that you have heard anything like the above. However, you have no doubt listened to scores of sermons, read numerous books, and participated in countless discussions about the importance of observing one of the "curses" God pronounced in Eden: "he shall rule over thee." The results of Adam and Eve's sin were injurious, detrimental, and harmful. The control men were predicted to wield over women, which came as a part of the death Adam and Eve brought upon themselves, was, just like the other effects of their sin, a consequence that ought to be resisted and, if possible, prevented.
