Social Problems

Autor Linda Deutschmann Editat de Norman A. Dolch
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 30 apr 2007
Social Problems explores the consequences of symbolic interactionism in society, a theory which contends that people attach meanings to symbols such as language or gestures and base their behaviors on their interpretations of these meanings. Norman A. Dolch, Linda Deutschmann, and Helen Powell compile a number of critical and innovative essays that explore different aspects of society including mental illness, race relations, terrorism, and family life.

Recenzii

Social Problems accomplishes what many other books in this area have aspired to do: pull the reader into the material through case studies that open each chapter and then serve as the basis for the analysis of the more general problem illustrated by the case study. Collectively, the authors achieve a wonderful mix of engaging examples and summaries of empirical literatures combined with more abstract conceptual analysis. I would recommend this book to any instructor teaching a course in social problems.--Jonathan H. Turner, Distinguished Professor of Sociology, University of California, Riverside
