Software Architecture: Research Roadmaps from the Community

Editat de Patrizio Pelliccione, Rick Kazman, Ingo Weber, Anna Liu
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 12 sep 2023
This book provides a collection of cutting-edge research roadmaps that attempt to determine and perhaps even shape the future of software architecture research. It contains a distillation of the outputs from several ICSA 2022 working sessions and the subsequent work from the authors. Software architecture research involves the study of the design and analysis of software systems, focusing on the high-level structure and organization of software components, as well as the interactions and relationships between them. It also focuses on the non-technical aspects of software design: how teams are organized, and how they communicate and work together.
The first three chapters of the book investigate software architecture for emerging classes of software systems with widespread interest, including quantum computing, artificial intelligence-centric systems, and systems within value-based ecosystems. Subsequent chapters investigate the role of architecture in relation to modern development processes; sharing of data as an enabler for furthering research in software architecture; and teaching software architecture.
In summary, this book provides an overview of the latest research and directions in software architecture, covering a wide array of current and emerging topics.  Specifically, this book is a valuable resource for researchers and students to aid them in identifying fruitful paths for future research.

Notă biografică

Patrizio Pelliccione is a Professor and Director of the Computer Science area at Gran Sasso Science Institute (GSSI, Italy). His research topics are mainly in software engineering, software architecture, and autonomous systems. He received his PhD in computer science from the University of L'Aquila (Italy). Thereafter, he worked as a senior researcher at the University of Luxembourg in Luxembourg, then assistant professor at the University of L'Aquila in Italy, and then Associate Professor at both Chalmers | University of Gothenburg in Sweden and the University of L'Aquila.Rick Kazman is the Danny and Elsa Lui Distinguished Professor of Information Technology Management at the University of Hawaii and a Visiting Researcher at the Software Engineering Institute of Carnegie Mellon University.  His primary research interests are software architecture, design and analysis tools, software visualization, and technical debt.
Anna Liu is currently Head ofResearch and Innovation at Amazon Web Services, based in Sydney Australia. Prior to joining Amazon, Anna held a professorial appointment at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), and research directorship at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO). She has been a practising software architect for 20+ years spanning Microsoft, Amazon, financial services and government agencies. She is passionate about software architecture education.
Ingo Weber is Full Professor at the Technical University of Munich, Computer Science Department, and Director at Fraunhofer, Germany. Beforehand, he held positions at TU Berlin, CSIRO Data61, NICTA and UNSW in Sydney, Australia, and SAP Research. In his research, Ingo works on business process management, software architecture and engineering, DevOps, blockchain, and applied AI. He is author of numerous publications and co-author of the books "DevOps: A Software Architect's Perspective" (2015) and "Architecture for Blockchain Applications" (2019).
