This book is an introspective look into the life of its central character, Jimmy, from age 5 up and into this 60's. Specific memories and moments from his outdoor experiences comprise the short stories highlighting a boys' evolution into manhood and eventually patriarch of a family of outdoorsmen. Most of its subject matter deals with communication between the male members of his family, specifically centering on the father and son relationship, set against the backdrop of hunting and fishing excursions over the years. Its rich environmental feel is created through the beautifully orchestrated use of descriptive prose. Many of the locations, scenes, and experiences are drawn from the author's own experiences through the stories are purely fictional. This book is meant to give you, the reader, a look into the mind of a particular type of man. This book was not written to defend hunting or fishing, but to allow the reader to see these two activities through they eyes of someone who values them as much as others value religion or law. Beyond the author's self-described spiritual attachment to the outdoors is his yearning to understand the men that shaped his view of the world. He attempts to allow you to see the world through the eyes of someone you may not have understood yourself, your own father. It is the author's hope that you will take with you a better understanding of the type of men described in this book and that you will learn to accept and honor them for what they are: providers, teachers, role models, and most importantly, dads.
