Soravakhin is the Anyatin word for demon. The Rekonatah, "the Longtails," resemble dragons in face, claws and tail. They have luxuriant manes, their hides are smooth, velvety from birth and become leathery with age. They emote intensely, but they do not shed tears. They also tend to behave rather dragon-like but only when under extreme duress. In upper-class social circles, this behavior, along with biting and tail-lashing, is frowned upon. They have no scales, they do not fly, breathe fire, or do magic, although there are likely some who wish they could. There are two nations represented; Anyat and Khayat. Anyat is the main focus of this story. The Anyatins are governed by the Council and Senior Assembly of the Knights of the Order of the Onyx, who enforce the laws of the land, according to the Hadah Barakhah, the Book of Wisdom. This book contains the sacred writings of Set Kerih, 'Left Hand'. He, in turn, had been given this knowledge long ago by the Akharin, the quintet of patron god-spirits that hold sway over the land, and who are believed to be the emissaries of the Creator. The law enforcement in Anyat consists of two entities; the Tarkha, "Revered Sword" or Officers of the Order of the Onyx, and the Tarkhsikhah, "Sword Warrior" or Guards, those rank-and-file soldiers that have enlisted from among the commoners. The Officers are partnered with their sentient and telepathic equine counterparts, the Ei-Tarkha, the Horses of the Sword, and together they train for many years. For many generations, the Ei-Tarkha and their riders have greatly benefited from one another in a symbiotic relationship unequalled anywhere else in their world. Yet, what happens when a Field Commander with genius intellect and the Gift of Sight, goes against the Council of the Onyx, and even defies the will of the Akharin themselves? Book One centers around this rogue Tarkha leader, Azren ain Vogen, and the terrible consequences if he should be successful in his evil plans."
