For a child with sound sensitivity, everyday things can be terrifying. Alarm clocks, fire alarms, and tornado sirens, just to name a few, are startling and may cause a child to freeze in panic or break down in tears. Sound sensitivity is common in many children, and may be more prominent in children with ADHD, Autism, Asperger's Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Bell's Palsy, or even chronic ear infections. Helping a child to understand what makes these noises and why they are useful might be a healthy step in overcoming these fears.
