Southwest England

Autor Jess Browning
en Limba Engleză Paperback
This book tells the story of John a descendant of the Anglo-Saxon invaders as he goes through life in Southwest England. It is a story that captures the life and times of the Gentleman John, his ancestors, his wives and children, his property, and his interaction with others in the Southwest of England. It's a story of passion and survival as John marries into prominent families and inherits property. The story tells of his careers as a land owner, constable, sheriff, a juror, a Member of Parliament and what he faced in battle during King Henry V's expedition in France as an armiger or arms bearer and warrior. In Parliament, John was in opposition to King Henry V's proposal to reclaim his sovereignty in France but, John later changed his mind and resolved his differences. The battle at Normandy pitted an undermanned English force against a French army that was determined to keep the English crown out of France. The battle was fought in October of 1415 and the story follows John, the Duke of York, King Henry V, and England's entire army on an improbable mission to reclaim what the King feels is rightfully his. John is an interesting character who was married at age 14. He later divorced his first wife but remained on good terms with her. He married two more times acquiring more love and property with each marriage. The story relates the slaughter of both English and French at the battle of Agincourt in France. The story moves from preparations for battle, to the disasters at the siege of a village near today's Le Havre, to the horrors of the field of Agincourt. John may be thought of as a romantic, but he was a skilled warrior in the service of several English kings.
