This is Book 2 in the continuing series of "Space Command, Journey into the Universe." Captain Yates and his fellow shipmates of the USS Constellation explore strange new worlds and find themselves battling hostile beasts and other alien beings while trying to find their way back to planet Earth. Not only do they encounter evil forces, but the crew also meets up with friendly space aliens, who help them several times in their quest.
Along the way, the crew of the Constellation meets a race of aliens. After meeting in battle, Captain Yates befriends the aliens and all crew members help save them from extinction. In the midst of doom, the Constellation receives help from her sister ship, the Orion. Orion arrives in the nick of time to help win the battle.
The Constellation, after being lost in space for over a year, is aided by a friendly alien civilization, which helps plot the space traveler's way home to Earth.
