In actuality, the approximately 400 entries in this encyclopedia run from Hank Aaron to Mildred Zaharias, but the selection of Muhammad Ali and the 'extreme sports' X Games for inclusion in the subtitle highlights the volume's emphasis on the broad cultural impact of sports.
. an amazing range of individual subjects is covered here. Bottom line this fun and thought-provoking resource offers an extensive bibliography for further study . recommended for all public libraries.
Since the strength of this particular encyclopedia is its emphasis on the relationship between sports and Amercan culture, it is unique among sports reference sources and is a recommended purchase for public library reference or academic library collections. It would also be useful in high school libraries with large sports collections.
