English summary: In 1946, the constructed Federal State of Rheinland-Pfalz was first considered as a provisional solution, which would not long exist. That's not least because the previous Prussian, Hessian and Bavarian land divisions had only had little common history. This verdict first changed itself when Helmut Mathy (a native of the Mosel region, 1934-2008) came to the fore with publications and lectures. Through his studies the historical identity of the region obtained a different orientation that existed before: from a German peripheral territory it became the heartland of European history. Under this perspective came manifold trends, occurrences and personalities of the (mid-) Rhine history an essentially greater importance than before; the thematic variance of his works was a hallmark of the Mathy era. For that reason his publications above all revolved around three themes, namely the history of the Rhineland-Pfalz as well as the city and university of Mainz. From these three subjects stemmed nearly all of the 23 texts, here newly published, of Helmut Mathy, whom one can little forget as a person as well as a relentless investigator of the history of the Rhineland, German and Europe. German description: Das 1946 gebildete Bundesland Rheinland-Pfalz galt zunachst als ein Provisorium, das nicht lange Bestand haben wuerde. Nicht zuletzt deshalb, weil die zuvor preussischen, hessischen und bayerischen Landesteile nur wenig gemeinsame Geschichte gehabt hatten. Dieses Urteil anderte sich erst, als der von der Mosel stammende Helmut Mathy (1934-2008) mit Publikationen und Vortragen hervortrat. Durch seine Forschungen erhielt das historische Selbstverstandnis der Region eine andere Ausrichtung als bisher: Aus einem deutschen Randland wurde ein Kernland europaischer Geschichte. Unter dieser Perspektive bekamen die vielfaltigen Stromungen, Ereignisse und Personlichkeiten der (mittel-)rheinischen Geschichte ein wesentlich grosseres Gewicht als zuvor; auch die thematische Vielfalt seines Oeuvres war ein Kennzeichen der aAra Mathy. Dabei kreisten seine Publikationen vor allem um drei Schwerpunkte, namlich um die Historie von Rheinland-Pfalz sowie jene von Stadt und Universitat Mainz. Aus diesen drei Bereichen stammen fast alle hier neu gedruckten 23 Texte von Helmut Mathy, den man als Mensch ebenso wenig vergisst wie als unermuedlichen Erforscher rheinischer, deutscher und europaischer Geschichte.
