Victor Tanasa a dat nota:

Very dark. While it mostly explores the psychology of some very fucked up characters, it also delves into AI, genetic engineering, deep sea life and evolution. As is the case with the more recent Blindsight, the novel is pretty uneven. There's no plot for the first two thirds of the book - but that's OK, because reading about dysfunctional people living on the bottom of the ocean is surprisingly gripping. The trouble is that when said plot starts, it feels a bit rushed. Issues notwithstanding, Peter Watts has a unique style of tackling some heavy themes, and that alone makes Starfish a worthwhile read.

Notă biografică

Peter Watts is a former marine biologist, flesh-eating-disease survivor and felon/tewwowist whose novels-despite an unhealthy focus on space vampires-have become required texts for university courses ranging from Philosophy to Neuropsychology. His work is available in 24 languages, has appeared in 32 best-of-year anthologies, and been nominated for 59 awards. His (somewhat shorter) list of 22 actual wins includes the Hugo, the Shirley Jackson, and the Seiun. He seems disproportionately popular in countries with a history of Soviet occupation. He lives in Toronto with fantasy author Caitlin Sweet, five cats, a pugilistic rabbit, a Plecostomus the size of a school bus, and a gang of tough raccoons who shake him down for kibble on the porch every night.
