Notă biografică
Elizabeth Heavey completed her Bachelor's Degree in Economics while simultaneously completing her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. She earned the College of Nursing award and completed both degrees Summa Cum Laude. She began her nursing career working with high risk obstetrics patients in Miami Florida and moved back to Rochester to work at Strong Memorial Hospital and pursue her Master's Degree from the University of Rochester. She graduated, earning the Eleanor Hall Outstanding Master's Student Award while working in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and High Risk Labor and Delivery. She also functioned as the HIV outreach testing coordinator for the obstetrics service and received high accolades from the state for the program she developed which improved compliance and follow-up tremendously in high risk populations. She worked as a Nurse-Midwife at the Family Birth Place at Parkridge hospital where she loved "catching babies" and taking care of her patients for five years. She also continued her education during this time and completed her Ph.D. in Epidemiology, with high honors, at the University of Buffalo. She accepted a position as an assistant professor of nursing at the State University of New York College at Brockport in 2004 and began teaching community health nursing and statistics for nurses. In 2008, she completed a post-doc fellowship in adolescent medicine at the University of Rochester. Her research interests focus on adolescent reproductive issues and public health. In her spare time, Beth is an avid reader, runner and gardener. She is frequently found advocating for public health issues within her community and running around the playground with her family. She hopes this book will convince undergraduate nurses they each have a tremendous capacity to contribute to their patients and their professional field through the delivery and evaluation of compassionate nursing care.
