Stem Cells: From Myth to Reality and Evolving

Editat de Khawaja Husnain Haider
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 14 oct 2019

This book is a continuum of the first two books published in the STEM CELLS series entitled "Stem Cells: From Drug to Drug Discovery" and "Stem Cells: From Hype to Real Hope" which were published in 2017 and 2019, respectively. The scope of the book encompasses a wide range of topics with a latitude from adult stem cells to pluripotent stem cells in regenerative medicine either alone or as part of the combinatorial therapeutic intervention approach as "drug" besides their application as tools (disease model) during drug development process. Written by a leading group of researchers, the book encompasses experimental to clinical aspects of stem/progenitors cells, their biology, and characteristics.

He has also served on the editorial boards of various research journals and as an invited reviewer for several respected international journals. His research focuses on the use of DNA and stem cells as “drugs,” a topic that has gained popularity in regenerative medicine. He has over 270 publications to his credits including book chapters, published abstract and research papers in various leading journals, including Circulation, Circulation Research, Cardiovascular Research, JCMM, the Journal of Biological Chemistry, Journal of Molecular and Cellular Cardiology, Cell Cycle, Basic Research in Cardiology, European J of Heart Failure, Regenerative Medicine, and Antioxidant Redox Signaling. He has also given numerous presentations and recently edited 4 bookscovering various facets of stem cell biology.

Textul de pe ultima copertă

The book highlights the therapeutic applications of various stem cells, and introduces readers to thymus stem cells and their applications in the reconstitution of thymic structure and function. It also discusses the significant role of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in the treatment of autoimmune diseases and the use of MSC-derived exosomes in cell-free therapy. Moreover, it explores the application of hematopoietic stem cells in the vasculoprotection of the ischemially injured heart. Further topics include the regenerative potential of ovarian germline stem cells and the significance of endometrial stem cells in the pathogenesis of female reproductive tract diseases.Lastly, the book addresses stem cells from perinatal tissues and their immunoregulatory and differentiation potentials, and summarizes new strategies for targeting cancer stem cells to treat tumors.

Caracteristici

Highlights the therapeutic applications of stem cells of different origin Examines the role of thymus-derived stem cells in thymus restoration Explores cancer stem cells as targets for tumor treatment Discusses the immunoregulatory and differentiation potential of perinatal tissue-derived stem cells
