Still Standing

Autor David Neilson
en Limba Engleză Paperback
Still Standing is the final book of the comic sci-fi trilogy. Victor, our hero, has not only got used to living in this strange new world, but positively prefers it. He is happy to drift along with his new girlfriend, his monkey and dogs, a growing collection of classic cars and of course, his hoard of gold. Life is free from normal constraints; no government, police or taxes. He especially enjoys the fact that there is no one telling him what to do...well, apart from William, that is With Poffington Hall overflowing with guests after the hotel fire, William decides a mass eviction is called for and ropes Victor and Mike into moving them all to the town. Danii and Carmen come up with a plan for repopulation, which involves recovering individuals from the Neverness and vetting them for their suitability. However, after yet another disaster, they quickly realise that it's not as easy as they thought.
With the scheme abandoned, Victor finds himself drawn into secretly recovering Ingrid's lover, Francois Malinguerer from the Neverness, who happens to be the very same chap whose wine collection William has been searching for. To make matters worse, quite separately Jean Claude has requested that his mistress Cecile Malinguerer be recovered. Add to this William's harem of ultra-realistic sex dolls (which coincidentally includes a carbon copy of Pershia), his seedy Latex Extravaganza Show and the return of Brenda the 'dinner lady', the result is farce from start to finish.
Spurred on by curiosity, Victor explores one of the spaceships trapped in the Neverness and to William's horror retrieves two aliens, Captain Crone and his naughty son Fikkle. Not only do they discover whyeveryone disappeared, but they also learn of earth's impending doom, forcing them to make plans to evacuate the planet.
