Stolen Children

Dorothy Roberts and her sister Betty came from a family struggling to make ends meet. In 1926, at the ages of three and five, their father abducted the two girls, taking them away from their mother. It wasn't until years later, after she filed for divorce and custody, that they were reunited with her.

"Stolen Children" recounts the events during the time that Dorothy and Betty were adjusting to life with first one parent and then the other. The story is true, based on Dorothy's lifelong memories, and drawn upon her incredible capacity to remember events and emotions as she experienced them.

The book is written much in the same style as the popular "Little House on the Prairie" series of books written by Laura Ingalls Wilder and is intended for young and older readers alike. Many rare photographs of the era help to paint the picture of life in Oklahoma and Arizona during the Great Depression. It is a story of divorce seen through a child's eyes in a time when single parenthood was uncommon.
