This is Henry Schueftan's personal story of the trials and tribulations of immigrating to the United States and his army service during one of the most interesting and disturbing times in world history. Henry celebrated his 101st birthday on November 12th, 2015. He lived independently until the age of 99 when he moved into a nursing home where he now resides in Evanston, Illinois. Henry is a Jewish man of German decent who was born in Berlin, Germany in 1914. Henry immigrated to the United States in 1937 in order to escape the hostile atmosphere in Germany at the time. He believes it was pure serendipity that allowed him to have a successful 40-year career in accounting in Chicago, Illinois.
