Summer of Love is a joint laced with angel dust - a dangerous, confusing and ultimately maniacal high. It is August 8, 1969 in Los Angeles, where Summer of Love is set on the final day of Sam Carpenter's reign as the king of NBC's Thursday night comedy schedule. An actor whose string of good luck is finally running out, Sam is faced with an uncertain future. His marriage is fracturing. His friends are deserting him in droves. The network is kicking him to the curb - and the party's just getting started. What begins as a high-spirited celebration aboard the Walpurgis Night quickly splinters into a Fellini movie of grotesqueries, poisonous personalities, homicide and homemade toothpaste. Viewed from the perspective of Sam's dissolving reality, the once-familiar peers from the show begin to merge with one another, doppelgangers appear from out of nowhere, and a group of bizarre strangers seem to be stalking the party's attendees looking for Terry Melcher, Doris Day's son. A very un-groovy ending to a decade filled with so much promise, Summer of Love is the final nail in the coffin of the Aquarian Age and the absolute end of the innocence.
