Who killed Carlton Greene on the night of July 4th, 1957? In the summer of 1967, sixteen year old Billy Scott has to find out and if he reveals it to the world, he will be killed as well. After receiving a car stored in the family garage as a graduation present from his cold, calculating father, things begin to happen that nearly send Billy over the brink. As bad luck would have it, Carlton is revealed to be the eldest son of Billy's best friend and mentor, Amos Greene, a seventy five year old grandson of a slave who helps open the door to Billy's future. He can't tell Mr. Greene who he is beginning to suspect, caused Carlton's death or the evidence he has discovered, until he can prove it.
