Determined to make her mark in the male-dominated world of the army, Captain Kelly Byrnes is gearing up for a new assignment at the US Embassy in Japan. But while she's enjoying a last-minute vacation in the Japanese Alps, she witnesses a startling attack-one that the authorities are calling an accident, but that she instantly recognizes as something more.

Despite strict orders to keep her nose out of it, she finds herself driven to uncover the truth behind this suspicious event, and find justice for a man that has been wrongly arrested for the crime. Undeterred by potential risks to her career and reputation, the captain boldly delves into a secretive new world, joining forces with a cohort from the Japanese Ground Defense Forces, as well as an army reservist from Seattle.
