Since their teenage years growing up in Plainview, Indiana, best friends Odette, Barbara Jean and Clarice (nicknamed the Supremes) have been inseparable. Now they need each other and their Sunday meetings at Earl's All-You-Can-Eat Buffet more than ever.

Clarice, a former piano prodigy who has grown up to be a pious wife, mother and grandmother, is wrestling with the tenets of her restrictive religion. Barbara Jean, a strikingly beautiful woman who drinks to suppress memories of an abusive childhood and the death of her young son, must confront the tragic secret that has held her captive for decades. And Odette, whose fearlessness has been the salvation of her friends many times in the past, receives a life-threatening medical diagnosis.
