Wiley Walter Virden, Jr., earned a Silver Star and four other medals when serving in combat in the Korean War. He earned the right to be buried in Arlington National Cemetery near Washington, D.C. Wiley chose to be buried in the Virden family cemetery in Digby, Georgia, near the town of Griffin where he was raised in Georgia. An official military headstone for his grave was approved by the United States Government and a nephew, Norm. was given an official United States of America Flag provided in honor of the Army Veteran. To honor the Master Sergeant, a formal wreath laying ceremony was held at Arlington National Cemetery at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on August 6, 2019. A wreath was presented by his nephew, Norm, with whom he had a close relationship.

About the Author Norm Cooper is an award winning journalist, publisher, author, photographer, historian, public speaker and community leader. Zell Miller, two-term Georgia Governor, United States Senator, and the Keynote Speaker at two National Conventions for President Bill Clinton and President George W. Bush, described Norm as "a great editor, friend and American." The Georgia House of Representatives issued a Proclamation honoring Norm's career and community involvement. He has won more than ninety awards from the National Newspaper Association, Georgia Press Association, Georgia Sports Writers Association, Magazine Association of the Southeast and many others. He has written numerous books and created many publications. Norm was presented a Community Leader Award by the Atlanta Braves of Major League Baseball. He was an Honorary Team Captain for the Atlanta Braves in a game at the Atlanta Stadium. Norm has been involved with a national mentor organization for more than a half century, earning the Outstanding Service Award in two states, and the first in the nation to qualify for the Medal of Excellence. He is a Frontiersman reenactor. Norm has been in many movies and television shows, appeared as a guest on a national current affairs program, and worked as a news reporter for radio. As a public speaker, his talks include many topics and subjects.
