Sweet Folly

Autor Heather Whipp
en Limba Engleză Paperback
Sweet Folly is a story of passion and challenges. It is the third and final book of the romantic fiction trilogy, The Island Series. In early 1933, Ellie Williams is contented with her life. Her twins, Amelia and Jeremy, are leaving home to further their education in Brisbane. Ellie and her husband, Doctor Garth Williams, aren't too distressed at having fewer people in the house, because they are looking forward to the coming birth of another child. However, some unexpected dark times are ahead for the family. Ellie discovers her spoilt daughter, Amelia, has acted shamefully with a young sugarcane farmer's son, Marcus McBride. Amelia's marriage to Marcus follows quickly. They move two hundred and fifty miles south of Bundaberg to Maroochy River, to take ownership of a sugarcane plantation and begin their married life. Amelia struggles with her new role as a sugarcane farmer's wife. While Marcus works to restore the neglected farm, Amelia has to learn to manage and complete household chores single-handedly. Her pampered upbringing negatively influences her attitude to farm life. Amelia realizes her marriage is shaky from the outset. Amelia and Marcus discover that a murder had been committed on their new property, which adds more stress to a difficult time for them. When Marcus falls gravely ill, Amelia is shocked to learn that his illness is incurable. She appoints a manager to take care of the plantation. Several years pass and the world becomes embroiled in a war. It even affects the island nation of her mother's birth, the New Hebrides. The great nation of America comes to their aid. Amelia travels with her young son to her mother's birthplace in the New Hebrides to visit her aunt. No one could ever imagine what effect the trip would have on Amelia's life.
