Notă biografică

Dr Michael Spira (MB BS MRCS LRCP, Medicine) qualified as a doctor at St Bartholomew's Hospital. After initially specialising in eye surgery, he decided he was far more interested in treating the whole person. So he became a GP and eventually a senior partner in a large family practice. When he realised that his weight had crept up and he was a stone (6.5 kg) overweight, he tried to lose weight by following various diets, but nothing seemed to work. Eventually he worked out an approach that did work. It was published as How to Lose Weight Without Really Dieting. Since then Dr Spira has written other diet books and been on several national TV programmes as a diet expert. He has been an adviser to the UK government on an obesity programme, and is a member of the Association of the Study of Obesity and the National Obesity Forum. He is also the Medical Director of The Smart Clinics, a group of private clinics in South Kensington and Wandsworth, London.
