The 4th Door is a work of fiction. The story takes place in the time of the Arab Spring. To protest harsh treatment by the police in a small town in Tunisia, Mohammed Bouazizi, a young man, a street vendor by trade, pours gasoline over himself and sets himself on fire. Eighteen days later he dies. Five thousand people attend the funeral. Demonstrations and riots occur. The government of Tunisia falls and violence spreads throughout the region. The year is 2011. A papyrus has been discovered dating to the Fourth Dynasty, the golden age of the Kingdom of Egypt. The provenance of the document is questionable, but there is evidence to support the notion that there is an undiscovered chamber in the Great Pyramid, possibly filled with treasure in the form of antiquities. An expedition is formed with the help of a very rich and eccentric old man. Seven well-known archeologists who despise each other gather in an old hotel in the Islamic district of Cairo as ruffians on horseback trample protesters in Tahrir Square ...
