SHARON GOODMAN and KIERAN O'HALLORAN work in the Centre for Language and Communications at the Open University, UK, where they are responsible for the design and production of a range of open learning materials on aspects of English studies. Sharon Goodman's publications include Redesigning English: New Texts, New Identities (Routledge, 1996) and Teaching Academic Writing: A Toolkit for Higher Education (Routledge, 2003). Kieran O'Halloran is author of Critical Discourse Analysis and Language Cognition (Edinburgh University Press, 2003).
