All aspects are covered from the correct form of invitation and reply, appropriate costumes, who may dance with whom, the provision of food and drink and, of course, the dances themselves.The original publishers advertised their book as "the newest and most complete Ball-room Guide yet presented to the public. It contains all the dances hitherto in vogue, and also the great country house dances - the Cotillions - which have not yet become common, but which, for their mingled sentiment and fun, deserve a place in middle-class society, as well as amongst that of a higher grade. The Double Lancers will also be found more correctly given than in any other manual on the subject.It is hoped that it may be found useful by all who care for the inspiriting amusement of the ball-room."
