Something is coming.
Seama Beltom can feel it. He can see it.
The four nations of Asteranor are already at war or soon will be. But what's coming is worse than that.
Seama is reading Haslem's Song of Ages. Or whatever's left of it. An obscure history of mankind, it announced its presence by bursting into flames in the Escartine Library. The few pages rescued reveal a tantalising glimpse of the Earth's deep past, a revelation of Ages and deeds unknown.
And they carry a dark warning:
what is forgotten cannot cease to have been,
a crime against existence cannot be undone,
and the banished will seek to return.
Seama has been summoned because the time has come.
Something more dangerous than death, an ancient evil, stands just beyond the gates of the world.
It waits only on a passage opened, a door unlocked.
Seama can hear the rattle of the keys.

Set on an Earth remade, The Best of Men is volume one of the Song of Ages trilogy, an epic fantasy of monsters, gods, warriors and wizards, of heedless villains and decent everyday people.

This debut novel from Wilf Jones marries the dark epic fantasy styles of George RR Martin and Jack Vance to the post-apocalyptic jaunts of Stephen Lawrence and Joe Abercrombie, with something of the Eddings Belgariad thrown in for good measure.

Notă biografică

Wilf Jones is a British fantasy writer and occasional poet. A publishing industry sales professional now keen to spend more time on his own work. With a degree in Sociology and Religious Studies from Leeds University, even in his fantasy work, Wilf always focusses in on the difference between the realities of being human and the belief structures that surround those realities. But fear not: while he wants likes to make the reader think, his true mission is to entertain. A member of the Suffolk (UK) writing group Write Now! he benefits from consistent and constant peer revue and believes this to be a good thing. He is also a member of the British Fantasy Society and hopes to do them proud one day. Born the son of a coal miner, he feels very lucky to have found a life exploring, celebrating and, yes, selling many great, and not so great, works of fiction and non-fiction. Currently he's involved with academic publishing within the Scandinavian market. Travelling in Norway and Finland has afforded him with friendship, with inspiration and large chunks of writing space. Wilf is married to the beautiful Mary Elizabeth Marks, and is thoroughly entertained by his now grown up sons Isaac Raphael and Robert Alexander. He misses so much his daughter Morgan Grace who had so few days of life. Nothing else to know about him, apart from his love of singing, his occasional performances in the folk duo Rattlebag, the fact that he runs at least 15 miles a week, and that he feels most happy climbing Lake District fells.
