A nervous jewel thief, TruLeigh Blue-Waters lives a modest lifestyle in a quiet suburb of New York City. A mother to Lizzy and abandoned by her husband, Tru learns to adapt by holding down her day job as a personal assistant to a beauty products entrepreneur and jewel thief by night. She struggles to learn how to deal with the snobs in her day-to-day life yet keeps a soft spot for the underdogs and teenage kids. Seventy-some years ago, a beautiful musical jewelry box and tiara was stolen from Alyona Konn, a young Russian debutante visiting her aunt in New York City. Now all these years later, Tru re-steals the items to find out there is much more behind the stolen property than she bargained for. That is when Tru decides to uproot herself and her daughter and move back to her hometown of Willow Valley, Alabama. Just when Tru thinks she has escaped her old lifestyle of being a jewel thief more intrigue engulfs her. Now she becomes aware that someone is watching her and it may all stem from the job she pulled off back in New York. As she struggles to deal with whether she made the right decision to move or not, she realizes she may have jumped from the frying pan into the fire.
