Ecotourism is a form of sustainable tourism which needs to be supported worldwide. The demand of nature-orientated vacation is still rising and so are the various offers. However the definition of ecotourism varies in different countries and in different reports. Which is the correct definition? Which guidelines have been developed to examine ecotourism projects? What are the specific criteria of an ecotourist? The author, Annette Kalchreuter, deals with the subject by taking into account the ecotourism project "Proyecto Paria" on the Paria Peninsula in Venezuela. A SWOT Analysis about the strengths and weaknesses of the project delivers insight into the topic. The results provide recommendations for the future marketing of the project.
