Recenzii
"The Crusade Texts in Translation series is going from strength to strength (this is the twenty-ninth volume in the series) and this is due in part to Sweetenham’s efforts. This volume renders accessible two crucial texts that add extra dimensions to a whole range of topics, embracing the memory of the First Crusade, broader European attitudes towards the Near East, and the court culture of Frankish Antioch. They tell tales of dragons, judicial duels, holy warfare, warrior saints, and piles of gold. In doing so, they open a series of windows onto the fantasy life of the medieval crusader." - Nicholas Morton, Nottingham Trent University, Nottingham, UK
Descriere
The publication of this new translation of the Jérusalem and the Chétifs allows readers to take a complete view of this poetic trilogy about the First Crusade as the author originally intended. It makes accessible to readers the central texts of one of the key epic cycles of Old French literature which is of unique interest because of its portrayal of relatively recent events. It also gives readers an insight into the process of transforming history into legend, which arguably is of wider interest than just the history of the First Crusade.
