The Chemo Room

For patients, caregivers and medical professionals, one thing continually sticks out as a common bond among those in this cancer community - a desire to share the experience as a means of helping others.

Rasheen Davis exemplifies this sentiment and her memoir demonstrates it - from the way she reveals medical details to sharing her deepest personal feelings through poetry.

In each chapter, whether she is describing the ups and downs of the chemo room or the hidden realities of coping with cancer, Rasheen is always simple and direct in her approach, with a sense of humor we all can admire.

On top of that, Rasheen, who like so many others, has faced enormous financial consequences as a result of her diagnosis, is donating proceeds of her book to CancerCare, a wonderful organization helping thousands of people in many ways.

Each of us face challenges in our lives that we can never anticipate. How we deal with them defines our humanity. Rasheen is a living example of an "ordinary" person being forced to her limit by the physical, emotional and psychological hurdles that cancer presents. It's inspiring to see how gracefully she has handled such a relentless and monumental threat to her faith, family and existence.
