An illustrated history of American composer George Gershwin's music for the movies. Includes: Introductory chapters on the composer's life and influences, musical style, and the wide range of films he composed for or that are related to his Broadway musicals. Emphasis is placed upon previously unknown details and connections for many motion pictures--even silent films. Individual chapters, including cast/crew/music data, are devoted to each major film. The book's text is augmented throughout with vintage full-color illustrations of posters and other rare marketing materials such as movie-industry-magazine promotions and ads, as well as photographs of Gershwin's friends and associates.
