The Coandã Effect

Autor Valeriu Drãgan
en Limba Engleză Paperback – mai 2012
Super circulation is a generic name given to aerodynamic lift obtained by using fluidic rather than solid surfaces. These methods are - to some extent- related to the Coandã effect which causes a fluid flow to follow curved surfaces which leads to a pressure drop. This paper seeks to review and then expand the current state of the art in this field, going from Coandã's original Aerodyne Lenticulaire to the Upper Surface Blown wing and the principles of entrainment. The work begins by presenting parametric CFD test used later on in various applications. New technologies are discussed such as the Coandã Effect Lift-Thrust Integrated System (CELTIS), the study of a nuclear powered super circulation aircraft and that of a stealth multirole UAV with extended hovering capabilities. Notes on the use of conventional airfoils in Coandã effect aerodynes and the possibility of a self-super circulated helicopter blade are also presented. Other applications include a converse Coandã effect rocket nozzle and a new thrust vectoring device. The book is meant for both advanced and beginners, passionate about aerospace engineering and hopefully will be useful for further research in the field.
