Recenzii
...extremely useful...clearly and unpretentiously written, accurate in its judgements, and makes many of the findings of recent German schlorship accessible to an English-speaking audience.
Jones is a careful scholar in the grand tradition of Walter Emery and Alfred Durr... Anybody wishing to get to grips with the music of Bach will be well advised to equip themselves with this survey as their starting point... ...Jones's happy ability to formulate his insights in an effective and compelling way.
This is a staggering achievement and I am taken aback just imagining the amount of reading that has gone into it...the book amply succeeds in supplying a musical and largely up-to-date commentary on each work of Bach.
Through careful analysis of music, Jones identifies key aspects of Bach's musical fabric, forms, styles and techniques that develop and mature, capturing a fascinating image of Bach the supreme composer. To me Jones does this to the level that has been attempted and succeeded before.
