The Cross: Meditations and Images

Autor Serena Fass Cuvânt înainte de HRH Prince Charles
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 17 feb 2014
"Of all the world's great religious symbols, the Cross is the most widespread and the most enduring. This beautiful book celebrates it in all its countless varieties, as perhaps it has never been celebrated before."—John Julius Norwich, chairman of Venice in Peril (1971–2000), chairman of Serenissima Travel (1972–1987)
"This is a wonderful book. These images, gathered in one place, are an unique experience for the believer and non-believer alike. They are extraordinary artistic representations of great beauty from all over the world. Serena Fass's passion to follow her path is palpable as you turn the pages."—David Verey, chairman of the Tate Gallery Trustees (1998–2004), chairman of the Art Fund (2004–)
Serena Fass has compiled a collection of many important and beautiful representations of the Cross, spanning different strands of the Christian faith from the earliest Christians in Pompeii to the present day, and criss-crossing the globe from Norway to Zimbabwe and Peru to Australia.
Works are illustrated in a variety of media, including architecture, painting, sculpture, ivories, textiles, metalwork, and jewelry, as well as examples of the Cross manifest in nature. Serena has tried to convey the wide variety of cultural representations that illustrate Jesus's great commission to "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation" (Mark 16:15).

Notă biografică

Serena Fass: Serena Fass, lecturer, photographer and travel writer, has been designing and leading tours, worldwide, since 1970 when she started Serenissima Travel with Viscount Norwich as Chairman. Following the take-over of the company in 1987 she has worked with Noble Caledonia since it began - and for whom she provides color slides for use in their publicity material. She has lectured on the Caledonia Star & Island Sky as well as leading tours in Europe, Asia and Africa. Her speciality is the early Christian Church in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Islamic world from Turkey to the Indian Subcontinent.

Following 6 years in the Trical Marketing Division of Courtaulds, she was invited to India with her sister in 1969, by the Maharaja of Baroda, who produced PALACES OF INDIA with photographs by Serena's sister, Virginia. The next volume was FORTS OF INDIA. During this period Serena met Mother Theresa in Calcutta and produced an anthology of poetry and photographs, FACES OF INDIA, to raise money for Mother Theresa. Her friendships with the erstwhile Princely Rulers enable her to take people behind the scenes on very special tours of India.

She first visited Tehran for Nohruz (Iranian New Year) in 1971 on her way back from India, when Sotheby's asked her to see one of the Shah's cousins about organising a group to visit Persepolis at the time of his 5,000 years' celebration of the Persian Empire. She returned in the autumn to do a full reconnaissance of Iran for Sotheby's, She returned with a group under the Ayatollahs in the late 1980s and based her tours for Noble Caledonia on those trips. She has a keen interest in the architecture and history of both the Persian Empire of Cyrus and Darius and the Islamic era of Shah Abbas. Serena has led Noble Caledonia's tours to Iran and has recently returned to the North-West on reconnaissance, which has enabled her to design two exciting new tours for Noble Caledonia, Shah Abbas the Great for 2009 & 2010 and The Garden of Eden for 2010.

Serena lectures regularly at the Victoria & Albert Museum, The Royal Geographical Society, The Nehru Centre and for some branches of NADFAS.
