But for Mariu, the daughter of a local fisherman, life is not glamorous. Growing up in their small house, Mariu lost her mother at birth and took over many adult responsibilities at a young age. She is happy and content with her life for the moment and looks forward to the time spent with her father, Pablo.

Sofia and Mariu meet on the beach one day and become instant friends. But their friendship also reflects the deep division in Venezuela's society-poor versus rich.
