The Decorated Word: Qur'ans of the 17th to 19th Centuries: Nasser D. Khalili Collection of Islamic Art, cartea 04

Autor Manijeh Bayani, J. M. Rogers, Tim Stanley
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 31 oct 2006
The Nasser D. Khalili Collection of Islamic Art contains one of the largest and most comprehensive ranges of Qur’anic material in private hands. These holdings cover the entire history of Qur’an production from the 7th to the 20th century, and include examples from centres as far apart as Spain and India.
This volume on Qur'ans produced in the period after 1600 is published in two parts, each containing entries on some 75 exceptionally fine examples. Part One dealt mainly with Ottoman, Iranian, and Indian Qur'ans of the 17th and 18th centuries, including material from China, North and East Africa, while Part Two covers the 19th century in Iran and the Ottoman Empire. The book demonstrates the strength and brilliance of Islamic culture during a period that is, all too often, characterised as one of decline and decay. As such, it provides essential material for historians of Turkey and Iran, as well as for art historians.
