This romantic comedy portrays a battle of wits waged by two daughters who pursue young lovers of their own choice against the will of their fathers. The girls outwit those who intend to dictate who they shall marry. Anthony serenades Luisa from the street beneath her window while her father threatens to beat him and drive him away. The lovers pour out their hearts in passionate songs which express deeply held emotions. A duenna acted as a chaperone and assistant to care for young ladies.
