The Electromagnetic Universe 2nd Edition

Autor Harold E. Ensle
en Limba Engleză Paperback
At first glance this book may seem like a rather different presentation of classical electromagnetic theory, but it actually is very traditional. It is just that this viewpoint has been lost in modern physics, so it might appear as something new. Of course, there is the scalar field which actually is new, but other than that, it is just basic classical electromagnetism. This new field is introduced at the very beginning and the specific motivation is not explained until later in the book, but I would like to explain it a little more here. It turns out that when you actually follow electromagnetic theory to its logical conclusion there is actually a defect relating to conservation of momentum and energy. This is actually known, but for some reason has not been seriously addressed. The scalar field actually fixes this defect (without messing up electromagnetic theory in other ways). So I am very confident that this additional field actually exists. While this is one of the main issues of the book, the book also covers various conflicts that exist between classical electromagnetism and both relativity and quantum mechanics. These conflicts are real and I do not know why these remain unknown in modern physics, but that is the case. This book explains all of this in a logical and simple way. There is one more thing that is really unbelievable. Even after the addition of the scalar field to resolve the conservation issues (which it does for the known cases), one still runs into a problem with conservation of both momentum and energy. This new breakdown of conservation does not seem to have any resolution and I am now of the opinion that the conservation actually fails. This, of course, has fantastic implications in technology.
