March 1945. With the defeat of Germany and the end of WWII in Europe nearly at hand, Herman Goering, commander of Hitler's German Air Force, sends two submarines carrying sixteen metric tons of looted gold to South America. That gold arrived in Buenos Aires and then completely disappeared. Sixty years later, when Kirk Thomas joins Katie Wagner to help find her brother in Arizona, their world suddenly turns upside down. Constantly pursued by a German psychopath and former Nazi SS killers from Odessa, the courageous former Navy pilot and the resourceful graduate archaeology student are forced on a desperate quest to find Goering's missing gold in order to stay alive. Using Byzantine clues, they travel to Hawaii, Lake Powell and Virgin Islands, constantly attempting to evade the Germans whose intentions are torture and death. Even in this dangerous environment, Kirk and Katie find humor in many situations and, despite their age difference, fall in love.
