Every profession develops words for better communication among those in its field. These professional terms are great for insiders, but can be stumbling blocks to those new to the field, trying to enter the profession, or who may need to refresh their knowledge. This book takes the vocabulary currently prevalent in the library media center profession and puts it in layman's terms. Most of the terms covered in this book, such as 'book talking,' 'collection development,' and 'Sustained Silent Reading,' are specific to library media centers and are not found in dictionaries. Even the definition of common words, such as "budget," takes on a different tone when placed in the context of a library media center. This book makes each word and definition applicable to the library media specialist. Designed for quick reference, all terms are alphabetically listed with numerous cross-references. Bold print makes for further clarity. Included is a listing of common acronyms used by library media center personnel and Web links for important library documents such as Code of Ethics and Fair Use and Intellectual Freedom. It is a handy reference tool for library students and practicing library media specialists. As its title implies, this book is an essential glossary for library media centers. Highly Recommended.
