As a result of delivering numerous lectures at various parishes throughout the Lenten Season, from necessity, I had compiled a rather sizable amount of research material dealing with the passion and death of our Lord Jesus Christ. Ultimately this book is the bi-product of that preparatory undertaking. It is almost predictable therefore, that books published on this topic-especially those exploiting the sensational- would naturally enjoy widespread popularity. Tragically however, much of the information contained in these works- in our estimation- is either substantially deficient or totally inaccurate. Failing to adequately research their subject matter, many authors characteristically conclusions their predecessors originally drafted nearly one hundred years ago. Surely, numerous advances in archeology and hermeneutics (the unprecedented accessibility to extra-testimental literature such as Roman, Jewish, and Greek sources, makes all the difference in the world when seeking to postulate a fair, level-headed, and balanced assessment of the events in question. Accurate background information is absolutely indispensable when trying to discern any measurable degree of historical trustworthiness.
