The First Woman on the Moon

Autor J. M. Lord
en Limba Engleză Paperback
On paper, Omar Hussein appears to be the perfect candidate for NASA's new internship program. Brilliant, dedicated, and hardworking, he is one of the few honors physics students in America to achieve a perfect GPA in the year 2017. Omar also feels a strong commitment to give back to his community and share his passion for space exploration by volunteering at the planetarium every weekend. Despite his strong credentials, Omar is passed over for the internship in favor of his best friend Bruce Edwards. Omar's girlfriend Sabrina Jones suspects it is because Omar is Muslim. Sabrina is of the belief that women and visible minorities in America are continually passed over for opportunities due to the presence of an old boys' club run by white men that seeks to maintain white male privilege. The fact that not a single woman or visible minority male has landed on the moon despite the first manned spaceflight taking place almost fifty years ago further fuels her suspicions. Furious about Omar's rejection, Sabrina takes matters into her own hands. After several attempts at advocacy that lead nowhere, Sabrina decides to try something more radical to right what she feels is a grave injustice. With the help of her friends and a sympathetic NASA insider in Bruce, Sabrina and Omar head to the NASA Space Shuttle Center and take off with the brand new Space Shuttle Obama on a joyride to the moon. Needless to say, Sabrina and Omar's adventure into space doesn't exactly go as planned, and they end up facing a huge assortment of challenges as they and their friends attempt to become the first women and visible minorities to land on the moon.
