The Ghost of Samuel Cetswayo

Autor William T Pollock
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 16 mar 2009
Set almost entirely in South Africa during the apartheid years, The Ghost of Samuel Cetswayo is an impelling and remarkable story, linking many individuals, their political and social aspirations, and how their personal lives and actions have impacted upon the lives of many others, in particular a young Xhosa speaking man, and a Scottish born expatriate; two innocent men not remotely associated. March 1960. The recently formed Pan African Congress orchestrates what is intended to be a peaceful, national protest against the white government's introduction of the pass law restricting the free movement of black Africans, in white urban areas. Inadvertently, what is to follow is a massacre in which sixty-nine people lose their lives. During the early hours of the following day, a number of PAC activists are abducted from a secret township location by an armed group of white, pro-apartheid Afrikaners. Samuel Cetswayo is the only survivor of the execution-style murders that take place ... out of fear of his own people mistaking him as the informer, Samuel is forced into a lifelong, self-imposed exile. Thirty years later. Inspired by a visit to the beautiful Cape, Eddie Fairclough undertakes a very ambitious project to erect a pub and restaurant on a prime piece of land in the Transvaal. The project is meticulously planned, and with every cent to his name wrapped up in it, he is determined to make it a great success. What could possibly go wrong? Soon, Eddie becomes conscious that the building operation is attracting the attention of a small group of spectators, and its not long before they reveal what their interest in this particular piece of land is ... ... what follows is a number of shocking events that threaten his very existence.
