As a teenager, Lenae's desire to control things and appear perfect began to consume her. She wanted to be perfect, and, indeed, thought she was pretty close most of the time. She actually believed perfectionism was a blessing and was proud that she possessed this trait. She followed the "rules" well, yet no peace and joy came from a life like that. It was incredibly stressful day in and day out. She felt that she was always falling short and was plagued by fear and constantly comparing herself to others. It was during college, when things started to fall apart and perfectionism couldn't hide her sin and pain any longer, that the Holy Spirit began to pound on her heart. What followed were seven more years of spiritual lessons as she questioned just what it meant to "let God break her heart" and to pack all of her hopes, dreams, talents, fears, sins, and failures in a figurative box, put a bow on it, and give it to God as a gift.
