The Golden Buddha Changing Masks: An Opening to Transformative Theatre

Autor Mark Olsen
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 29 mai 2006
Theater instructors and students, aspiring actors, and working theater professionals can all benefit from this examination of acting as a self-development practice and spiritual path. Beginning with a brief history of the acting profession, the text covers Stanislavski and other special approaches to actor training, practices specific to acting that can open up wider perspectives, ways to promote both personal and professional development, the place of sexual energy in acting, and more. Also included is a section of practical exercises, based on the author's experience with professional theater companies, various forms of meditation and martial arts, and stage combat. The exercises emphasize both movement and perception and can readily be used in a wide variety of venues, from children's drama classes to community theater training, university acting courses, and professional acting. Using classic theater training and resources as a foundation, this guide incorporates the spiritual aspects of acting for a deeper artistic experience.

Recenzii

"Had I read this book in my mid-twenties I would have been spared a lot of self-inflicted torment. It is scholarly and wise, yet enormously accessible, and filled with information that can take any actor deeper into his craft and more importantly into a deeper perception of his own life. This book can be of great service to many young actors and any number of laypeople as well." --Alan Arkin, actor
"In this ground-breaking and stimulating book, the author reminds us of the spiritual longings that gave rise to the craft of acting in the distant past; he skillfully details how the spiritual path to awakening parallels, in important aspects, the path of the actor as he prepares his body, voice, intellect and spirit for the practice of his craft." --Ruby Allen, PhD, director of voice and speech training, Asolo Conservatory of Professional Actor Training at Florida State University
