The flavonoids are a very large group of natural products and are derived from flavone, which is found in primula plants. Some flavonoids are intensely colored and provide a wide range of blue and red colors in flowers, fruits and leaves. Others, like the flavonones, are essentially colorless and yet they provide the "whiteness" of white flowers.
