The Hidden Web: A Sourcebook

Autor William O. Scheeren
en Limba Engleză Paperback – feb 2012 – vârsta până la 17 ani
Google is certainly a useful Internet search tool for general topics, but most of the information available on the Invisible Web can't be found through Google. This book explains the value of the Invisible Web and how to access it.Most students and researchers possess only rudimentary Internet searching skills. The majority of school and public librarians are not aware of the breadth and depth of information available on the Hidden Web. This is unfortunate, as the ability to navigate the Hidden Web in schools and public libraries is essential to locating the most current and authoritative information. The Hidden Web: A Sourcebook serves as a valuable source of information about the Hidden Web, much of which comprises websites containing statistical information or data from a wide variety of government agencies. The concepts, search techniques, and specific websites presented will be helpful in information literacy instruction and the teaching of research skills.

Recenzii

Keep this readily accessible on your office bookshelf.
Many of the Websites included in this publication are great resources containing valuable information that is fully or partially unavailable through search engines. . . . The Hidden Web does succeed in providing a number of educational and worthwhile research sources that many users are ignoring by relying solely on search engines.
Each site appears in boldface type followed by the URL, with a description taken from the site itself in many instances. The conclusion reiterates the need for proficient search skills in order to find these hidden resources and that, in spite of what many students believe, Google is not the only way to find information. A bibliography and extensive index conclude this straightforward, accessible guide to exemplary research.
This is a valuable tome for a web beginner or one who wishes to share some of the information it contains with others. . . . Recommended.
