Shela, by age fourteen, had lost her loving father to a terrible accident, her mother, who couldn't cope, to a drug overdose; and she, on the streets, homeless, scared, and confused. To forget the troubles of her young life; she turned to drinking and drugs. To eat, and feed her habit, she turned to crime. She gave birth before turning eighteen. Confused, unable to cope, she decided to end it all; but for a chance meeting with Karl Ward, who helped her on a journey from the streets; leading at times, through her past; to his wife, and later, the Governor's Mansion, and First Lady of Georgia.
