Recenzii
Librarians will find this body of folklore valuable even if they have no plans to replicate Sobol's program. Recommended.
[S]obol chronicles his experiences in four schools, explains how to conduct a classroom folktale residency program, and shares a wide variety of folktales from around the world.
Sobol established residencies in Chicago public schools with a dual purpose: to help English language learners--immigrant students from across the globe--bridge cultural divides and to train these students in collecting and recording folk stories from their elders. He provides a thorough description of the process along with a collection of the stories gathered. A useful tool for tapping into the cultural experiences of students and/or establishing similar programs.
